Profinet Tutorial: PN1-D25P Series on Loading Using TIA Portal Loading

Introduction to the Profinet Gateway

The PN1-D25P Series is a Profinet gateway that converts Profinet protocol to Modbus RTU. This gateway is used to map Modbus data to Profinet, enabling seamless integration of Modbus devices with Profinet-based systems. By utilizing the GSD file for integration, the gateway allows for easy read/write operations to Modbus devices without the need for programming. Configuration is quick, and data can be transmitted directly to the PLC.

The gateway provides one RS485 and one RS422 (RS485 compatible) interface, each supporting up to 32 command nodes, with a total of 64 command nodes. The PN1-D25PH model includes two RJ45 Ethernet ports, offering switch functionality. All Modbus commands are loaded as modules, with a clear memory-mapping relationship between Profinet and Modbus, which can be queried directly in STEP 7 or TIA Portal software. Status bytes can be loaded to monitor the connection status of Modbus devices in real-time.

This tutorial will guide you through the steps to load the Profinet gateway device using TIA Portal

TIA Portal Device Loading Tutorial

2.1 Preparation Before Connection

  1. Prepare the required XML file, such as: GSDML-V2.3-EBYTE-PN1-D25-20241025.xml.

  2. Connect the 24V DC external power supply to the module and power it on. Before powering up, ensure that the positive and negative terminals of the power supply are correctly connected.

  3. Use Ethernet cable to connect the module to the Profinet port of the PLC controller, ensuring that both devices are on the same network segment.

2.2 Adding the GSDML File in TIA Portal

  1. Open TIA Portal and go to the "Options" menu, then select Manage General Station Files (GSD).
